The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity highlighted in São Roque do Pico the importance of partnerships with local authorities in the area of housing to pursue this "great mission" of the Regional Government: to ensure this right to all Azoreans.
"Village councils, but also municipal councils, are key partners in throughout the entire process as they are responsible for identifying cases and referring people to Housing services during application periods for housing programmes, which is decisive," said Andreia Cardoso.
The Regional Secretary spoke on the sidelines of a ceremony authorising the allocation of support for the rehabilitation of degraded housing in the context of the Government's statutory visit to the island of Pico. He stressed that local authorities are partners of excellence "not only in identifying cases, but also in implementing housing policies."
"By combining efforts, we have been able to respond to a growing number of families," said Andreia Cardoso.
The support allocated at the ceremony will cover six families from the municipalities of Madalena and São Roque do Pico. The event also included the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Village Council of Santo António for the recovery of 10 homes owned by needy families.
Also in the scope of the statutory visit to Pico, the Government has granted support for the recovery of seven homes in the municipality of Lajes do Pico.
"In the current legislative period, we have already authorised the allocation of 570 thousand Euros, including the support granted during this statutory visit, which are directly invested in the recovery of degraded homes owned by 40 families residing on Pico," said the Regional Secretary.
"It is our wish that all Azoreans may have decent housing. This is our main purpose and we work towards this goal on a daily basis," ensured Andreia Cardoso.
