Piedade Lalanda makes "positive" assessment of European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity made a "positive" assessment of the celebrations of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, which was marked in the Azores with over two hundred initiatives in 2012.
Piedade Lalanda praised the social responsibility and the work carried out by Azorean public and private institutions under the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. The event was celebrated in the Region with the organisation of more than 230 actions promoted by one hundred public regional and local administration entities, non-governmental activities, companies, private social solidarity institution, associations and the University of the Azores, among others.
The Regional Secretary recalled that "the challenges of an ageing population require the implementation of social policies that defend the interests of the elderly as well of their families and the forthcoming generations."
The assessment of the actions developed in the Azores is part of a report submitted to the National Monitoring Commission for the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity Between Generations, where the Region is represented by the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity.
