The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stressed the support policies for the elderly and families conducted by the Regional Government, pointing out the example of "Meus Açores, Meus Amores" (My Azores, My Love) programme, which is intended to promote the mobility of senior citizens across the archipelago.
Speaking at a meeting held with a group of 45 elderly citizens from Faial and São Miguel that took place in Santa Cruz das Flores on Thursday, Piedade Lalanda pointed out the importance of this initiative since it promotes family values and active ageing.
For the government official, this program is also a way of helping seniors to "add more life to years." In this context, the government official mentioned that "these trips are intended to keep the elderly young at heart and encourage them to go on adventures."
With regard to other support measures for the elderly, Piedade Lalanda stressed home support services, leisure centres as well as day and night centres.
The Regional Secretary congratulated the elderly who joined the programme and wished them "a nice stay" on the island of Flores.
