The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity opened today the new Support Centre for Disability in Praia da Vitória, a Government's investment of about 3.6 million Euros. It is intended to provide an integrated and innovative response to people with special need in this municipality of Terceira Island.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony, Andreia Cardoso stressed that this investment "responds to the needs that were identified in conjunction with the institution."
"Partnerships are essential to make us aware of the global work that is done in the Region and, above all, to provide a contribution so that the final result can be the best possible," said the government official.
This work has allowed us to create a response that includes an Occupational Activity Centre with capacity for 30 users, a Residential Home with capacity for 12 users and a Rehabilitation Centre providing speech therapy, occupational therapy and therapeutic exercise; the latter also has all the conditions for the promotion of independence and monitoring of patients.
In addition to the services now created, the new centre also provides two vacancies to ensure the rest of informal caregivers.
Andreia Cardoso also stressed other investments in the area of disability support that were opened during this legislative period, namely on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, Pico and São Jorge, amounting to more than seven million Euros. These investments improved the response conditions in a universe of 180 users.
