Qualification of responses to the elderly population is top priority, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity highlighted today the capacity of Terceira Island in providing efficient social responses to its elderly population.
Speaking at the presentation of the project for the rehabilitation of the Jesus Maria José Shelter, Andreia Cardoso stressed that both the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo and Terceira Island "are above the minimum coverage rate." In this regard, the government official said this is not about "solving capacity problems," but rather "to redevelop this space," and adapt it to demands of today."
"The Government has demonstrated a strong commitment towards the investments planned for Terceira Island and this is another example. In fact, the investment in the area of Social Solidarity will also benefit construction companies as well as the provision of goods and services," stressed the Regional Secretary.
The work represents an investment from the Regional Government of about two million Euros. The intervention will renew a social infrastructure that provides a response to 54 elderly from Angra do Heroísmo.
The launch of the public tender for this contract works is scheduled for the beginning of March.
The Regional Government has also other planned investments in 2015 for the development of social responses addressed at the elderly population residing in the villages of Cinco Ribeiras and Doze Ribeiras.
