Regional Council of the Azores Commissioner's Office for Childhood met for the first time today
The Regional Council of the Azores Commissioner's Office for Childhood has already been created. The first meeting took place today in Ponta Delgado.
This body consists of representatives appointed by the Government of the Azores in the areas of Youth, Employment and Labour, Social Solidarity, Education and Health. It also comprises the following organisations: Attorney General's Office, the Association of Municipalities of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, the Regional Delegation of the National Association of Parishes, the Regional Union of "Santas Casas da Misericórdia" and the Regional Union of Private Social Solidarity Institutions.
Furthermore, security forces and youth associations also hold a seat at this Council. Its primary goal is to find, in collaboration with entities working in the area of childhood and youth and the respective authority, the most appropriate solutions to improve their working conditions, ensuring the compliance with children's rights in the Azores.
The Regional Council is charge of proposing concentration strategies among public and private entities, structures and intervention programmes in the promotion of children's and youth rights with the aim of reinforcing cooperation resource rationalisation. Moreover, it also oversees the work developed by the commission for the protection of children and youth in the Region.
The Regional Council of the Azores Commissioner's Office for Childhood started today its works at a meeting attended by all entities that took place at Ponta Delgada Library and Regional Archive.
Chaired by Isabel Almeida Rodrigues, the Azores Commissioner's Office for Childhood was established in September by proposal of the Regional Government with the mission to defend and promote the rights of children and youth in the Region.
