Regional Government already authorised over 770 processes for the support of degraded housing, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity revealed in Ponta Delgada that the Government of the Azores has already authorised over 770 processes for the support of degraded housing in the current legislative period, representing an investment of eight million Euros.
Andreia Cardoso spoke during the ceremony for the authorisation of support to the recovery of degraded housing on the island of São Miguel. The government official considered that this measure has "a great importance to beneficiary families and contributes to the revitalisation of the island's economic sector" since it ensures the survival of small contractors and that of their families.
For the Regional Secretary, this programme "is a good example of solidarity as well as of the fruitful partnership between several institutions and the Government."
During the ceremony held Friday, the Government authorised an investment package of approximately 420 thousand Euros, comprising one hundred families. The involvement of 15 partner organisations will increase this amount by 30%, with the incorporation of labour and material costs.
Authorised support will contribute to the improvement of housing and living conditions of the beneficiary families living on the island of S. Miguel, who are in situations of economic vulnerability and have children and elderly in their care.
Andreia Cardoso stressed that the recovery and redevelopment of housing "also contribute to the maintenance of families and prevents the abandonment of rural areas."
