Regional Government and Solidaried'arte association promote social response to young people in Arrifes, S. Miguel Island
The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity has joined Solidaried'arte for the implementation of a multi-activity cultural and artistic centre, a community project that aims to prevent social exclusion. It will be developed in the Piedade Jovem neighbourhood in the parish of Arrifes, where the centre will be installed.
"The project will contribute to the full and effective cohesion and integration of the residents of Piedade Jovem neighbourhood in accordance with the provisions of the Regional Strategy to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion," stressed the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity.
This project will also involve other institutions and the coordinating team of the Arrifes Local Development and Social Cohesion Centre with the purpose of identifying, by the end of the month, 20 young people who fit into this initiative, which is expected to start in February.
The young people will be selected among those who are already supported by the Local Centre. The latter has already implemented an intervention strategy focused on supporting families, developing their problem solving skills, promoting school success for children and young people and occupying their free time, and improving youth employability.
"Just like this project that we are now beginning, the Community Centre of Arrifes "Magic Cube" is also developing a series of educational activities directed to children, namely those intended to support parents in raising their children, and activities aimed at improving the employability of young people. In this regard, we believe we are on the right track in terms of implementing actions to mitigate the problems identified by this Local Centre," stressed Andreia Cardoso.
The government official spoke at the ceremony for the transfer of an apartment to Solidaried'arte. On the occasion, a cooperation agreement was also signed with this association to finance the recruitment of human resources in the area of psychology, street entertainment and general services, corresponding to an increase of 50 thousand Euros in the annual Social Security funding.
With this increase of Social Solidarity aid, Solidaried'arte will now benefit from an annual support of more than 103 thousand Euros.
