Regional Government creates COVID-19 Reception Centre at Ribeira Grande Health Centre
The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariats for Social Solidarity and Transport and Public Works, has set up a reception centre at the Ribeira Grande Health Centre, a secondary support space to be used whenever necessary in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This space, which is immediately available, has the capacity to accommodate patients admitted to hospital and/or other situations that may be justified in order to increase the number of rooms and beds available in hospital units and reinforce the network of formal responses to the COVID pandemic.
This Centre was created following the rehabilitation of a wing of the Ribeira Grande Health Centre that was inactive. It has intervention area of 261 m2 with available 22 beds that can be increased up to 29.
These efforts were undertaken in a partnership between the Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity, and the Regional Secretariat for Transport and Public Works, through the Regional Directorate for Public Works and Communications.
The Centre includes seven rooms with three 30 m2 beds each, one 16 m2 isolation room and a 35 m2 nursing and reception room, through a rehabilitation intervention of the existing area and the acquisition of 10 electric hospital beds and seven TV sets. Hence, this space will have all the conditions to provide the best possible response to patients' needs and be as functional and welcoming as possible.
In turn, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Ribeira Grande (social institution) and the Casa do Povo of Capelas (community centre) also allocated four and two articulated hospital beds, respectively, to provide this infrastructure with more equipment, demonstrating the solidarity, sense of responsibility, partnership and commitment of the extended social support network.
The Regional Government will move forward with similar interventions on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira.
