The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated in Vila Franca do Campo that the Government of the Azores is committed to "promote the knowledge on the work of each institution" in order to render the existing resources in the communities more profitable."
Andreia Cardoso spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the opening session of the Sun Day celebrations, an initiative promoted by the partners of the Local Development and Social Cohesion Centre of Vila Franca do Campo. The event was primarily intended to not only publicise the work that has been carried out, but also to provide a recreational and educational programme for the promotion of healthy lifestyles that may contribute to community participation in addressing the issues of school dropout or the lack of parental involvement in children's education.
"The intervention in the territories goes through an effective community work and this community work takes place with the living forces of each community," the Regional Secretary stressed, pointing out the importance of the participation of institutions such as leisure activities centres, development and youth inclusion centres or health centres, among others.
Regarding the fight against school failure, Andreia Cardoso stressed that "schools cannot work in isolation."
"In order to render these responses efficient, it is essential that everyone be effectively involved and this requires the participation of parents," said the government official.
The Regional Secretary pointed out that "there are now many good examples of networking in the Region." However, he added that networking is not just limited to the Government's work. It also involves the multiplicity of services and resources that are available in the communities."
