Regional Government invests two million Euros in new day nursery in Ponta Delgada
The Government of the Azores signed a value-investment cooperation contract with "Patronato de São Miguel" (social solidarity institution) for the construction of a new day nursery in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, a public investment over two million Euros.
Speaking at the end of the ceremony, the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stressed that, with the construction of this infrastructure, "the government of the Azores not only fulfils a promise, but also responds to an effective need of the population of this municipality. Our goal is to create the necessary conditions for a healthy psychological and educational development of children and, simultaneously, improve the living conditions of families, which will contribute to the reconciliation of work and family life."
Andreia Cardoso pointed out that it is "a legitimate expectation of an institution and this infrastructure provides a response to the families from a municipality that still needs this response, despite surpassing the minimum figures set by European guidelines."
The new infrastructure, included in the Regional Public Works Charter, will have a capacity for 84 children and will located in the area of Paim, São José.
Andreia Cardoso recalled that the Regional Network of Social Infrastructures has signed almost 300 cooperation agreements with IPSS (Private Social Solidarity Institutions) and "Santas Casas da Misericórdia," providing a social response to 12,500 children. In this context, the government official reiterated the Government's efforts to fulfil its commitments and ensure "the best levels of comfort and safety for the healthy growth and the full realisation of the potential" of Azorean children and youngsters.
