Regional Government promotes creation of Free Time Occupation Centre from 3 to 18 years in Água de Pau
The Government of the Azores signed today a partnership with "Casa do Povo" of Água de Pau, municipality of Lagoa, which will allow the opening of a Free Time Occupation Centres with capacity for 25 children and young people aged between 3 and 18. It is fitted with all the necessary conditions to accommodate children with disabilities.
"This is a major challenge," the Regional Secretary for Solidarity stressed, praising the availability of municipalities and other local institutions to collaborate with the Government in creating the conditions so that children and young people with disabilities may fully benefit from Free Time Occupation Centres.
This initiative, which will have a public support of 43 thousand Euros per year, is the second of two pilot experiences. Last month, the Government signed a partnership with Christian Youth Association for the creation of services with the same features on Terceira island.
"It is essential that this response be regarded by the community as something that is for everyone and has all the conditions to respond to the specificities of some users; nevertheless, it is a response for all," said Andreia Cardoso.
