Regional Government provides 240 training vacancies for institutions providing social responses to people with disabilities
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity announced in Ponta Delgada that the Regional Government will begin the training of technical and assistant staff of institutions that provide social responses to people with disabilities, providing 240 vacancies throughout the archipelago.
Andreia Cardoso spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the "Seara de Trigo" Association. On the occasion, she added that these training courses will be promoted by the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity and will take place between May and June on the islands of Terceira, São Miguel and Faial.
This initiative comprises two training courses. The first is focused on sexuality in disability, "The diversity of Sexuality and Affections," while the other focuses on the management of aggressive behaviours in people with disabilities, "Management + Inclusive of People with Disabilities in the Organisational Space."
"These two areas of training were defined based on the Evaluation and Characterisation Study on Occupational Activity Centres (CAO) conducted in the Region in 2018. It allowed the identification of the most pressing training needs by the workers of these social institutions," stressed the Regional Secretary.
Training will be provided by the National Institute of Rehabilitation (INR), a certified entity with recognised work in the area of disability. It will conduct a total of 12 sessions, six on each theme, which will take place on the three aforementioned islands.
"Considering that the themes in question are comprehensive, it was decided to extend them to technical and assistant staff of institutions," noted Andreia Cardoso.
With these training initiatives, the Regional Government is implementing one of the actions envisaged in the 2018-2019 biannual plan of the Regional Strategy to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion, namely the improvement of the quality of the response provided by Occupational Activity Centres and Residential Homes through training.
