Regional Government supports creation of Free Time Activity Centre on Corvo Island
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity signed today a cooperation agreement with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Corvo for the creation of a Free Time Activity Centre (CATL) with capacity for 20 children.
Andreia Cardoso visited the construction site of the "Planeta Azul" Daycare and Kindergarten facilities, which are operated by this institution. The works include the installation of sanitary facilities in the multipurpose room on -1 floor with a view to the installation of the CATL.
According to the government official, this 26 thousand-Euro project, supported by the Regional Government, will create 20 vacancies for the Free Time Activity Centre, which will run part time in the school period and full time on holidays and school breaks.
“The implementation of this area on the island of Corvo aims to provide leisure activities for children and young people from the age of three during their free time, through different intervention models, namely the follow up, integration and practice of activities," said Andreia Cardoso.
The contract signed today for the creation of this area provides for an annual amount of 21,194.40 Euros. In the first year, the estimated value is reduced proportionally according to the period of time between the beginning and the end of the current calendar year, amounting to 7,064.80 Euros.
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary highlighted the “important work” carried out by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Corvo, whose intervention with children and the elderly has been fundamental.
“The Santa Casa da Misericórdia, through the eight cooperation contracts signed with the Regional Government, has provided the necessary and adequate services and support to endow this island with social responses at the level of the remaining islands,” stressed the government official.
“We are, thus, continuing with our goal of leaving no one behind and guaranteeing each Azorean, from Santa Maria to Corvo, the best responses and the necessary support in our different areas of intervention,” said Andreia Cardoso.
