Regional Government wants to extend lease support programme to more households, says Piedade Lalanda
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity revealed today that the amendments to the Regional Legislative Decree regulating the lease support programme designated as "Families with Future" are intended to extend this measure to more households.
Speaking to journalists after being heard at the Commission on General Policy of the Legislative Assembly, Piedade Lalanda stressed that one of the proposed amendments to the legislation in force concerns the calculation of the financial support awarded under the lease support programme, which will be now calculated in accordance with the household income.
The Regional Secretary stressed that this solution "makes the support system fairer" by lessening disparities regarding the lease amount, which is different from island to island and varies within each island.
A second amendment to the legislation in force will allow families to submit a second application, after five years from the first; however, during the second period, with equal length, "the financial support will decrease."
This measure is intended to encourage "families to include the housing lease in their budgets," revealed Piedade Lalanda.
According to the Regional Secretary, this amendment also aims to achieve another "important goal," which is "to ensure the financial availability of the Region's Budget for these support measures in order to extend it to more families."
The "Families with Future" programme covers households benefiting from social renting measures and encourages a leasing scheme in which the beneficiary may directly decide the lease amount with the landlord.
