Regional Government wants to open "Quinta do Norte" to families

The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity revealed the Regional Government's intention to turn "Quinta do Norte" in the village of Capelas into a space dedicated to families and schools, providing them with experiences and learning activities.

"We hope that in the future, families may also enjoy nice a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in the farms," Piedade Lalanda stated, adding that "Quinta do Norte" may "serve the community as an educational space, particularly for children."

"In addition to promoting social inclusion, this farm also intends to be an educational space that helps youngsters discovering nature," stressed the Regional Secretary.

While visiting the site, the government official noted the fact that "Quinta do Norte" aims to be an "inclusive space that comprises several areas," as it support the social inclusion of ex-addicts, deportees and youngsters at risk.

During the event to mark the World Children's Day, which is celebrated on June 1, Piedade Lalanda emphasised children's rights, particularly their right to education and learning.

About 130 elementary level students from Capelas Basic Education School visited "Quinta do Norte," where they had the opportunity to participate in traditional games.

Under this initiative promoted by the Azorean Government in conjunction with "Norte Crescente" association, children had the opportunity of taking part in several activities: interaction with farm animals, facial painting and balloon sculptures.
