Regional Government's investments safeguard rights of all children, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity said today that the Regional Government "has sought, within the reach of its resources, to protect a number of critical areas of public investment, particularly those targeted to the most vulnerable groups."
Speaking at the opening of the Conference "Challenges for Preventing Child Poverty," Andreia Cardoso stressed that the Government works on a daily basis "to strengthen the progress in all areas where it this has been possible."
"We have developed effective plans to ensure that all investments safeguard the rights of all children in the Azores," Andreia Cardoso said, adding that "we can already see positive results stemming from this economic strategy and the main economic indicators have consistently progressed in the right direction.”
The Regional Secretary reminded that the fight against the scourge of child poverty is a "multidimensional challenge," involving several areas in a concerted response that allows "breaking the cycle of disadvantage."
In her speech, Andreia Cardoso stressed the importance of involving children and young people in the redefinition of strategies to fight the issue that affects them. According to her," if the Government is well positioned to address the financial aspects of child poverty, the voices of young people themselves are best suited to advocate social change needed to eradicate this scourge."
