Support to social solidarity institutions to take into consideration provision of differentiated care
The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity (SRSS) will be conducting a survey on the care needs of each beneficiary of Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) and "Santas Casas da Misericórdia" throughout his year in order to distinguish the type of support in accordance with the care provided each beneficiary.
Piedade Lalanda visited today the facilities of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Angra do Heroísmo (SCMAH). During this visit, the government official stressed that the allocation of support according to the services provided by these institutions will focus on the elderly, including those assisted at nursing homes as well as those receiving home care. In both situations, there are different levels of support that is important to address.
The analysis of the services provided to the elderly living in homes as well as of home care services are two commitments that were taken "in the Base Agreement signed with the representatives of IPSS and 'Santas Casas da Misericórdia'," noted the Regional Secretary.
With regard to the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Angra do Heroísmo, Piedade Lalanda considered that this institution "plays an important role among the elderly and children." In fact, "it supports over 300 elderly living in homes or through home support."
Piedade Lalanda also stressed the importance of signing protocols for the provision of continued care, the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Angra do Heroísmo being the only institution where this service is available on the island of Terceira. The government official added that the matter will be analysed under the ongoing assessment of the care each beneficiary receives.
The Regional Secretary also pointed out the openness of the newly elected Board to revise management strategy of the institution, particularly in terms of installed resources, efficient use of space and equipments.
Taking into consideration the wishes of the new board of SCMAH in improving the quality of the responses provided by several services, the Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity has already shown its availability to cooperate in the acquisition of furniture for the day nursery and day centre.
