Work of Arrifes Intergenerational Centre to be completed by the end of the year, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated that the new Arrifes Intergenerational Centre on São Miguel, an "innovative response at regional level" in the context of policies aimed at children and the elderly, will be "concluded by the end of this year."
Andreia Cardoso visited today the construction of this Intergenerational Center, which will include a Free Time Activity Centre, a Day Centre and a Night Centre, each with capacity for 30 users.
The Regional Secretary pointed out that this is not only a matter creating physical spaces, but it also of developing contents and promoting contact between generations, "which is why there has been a clear commitment to the development of intergenerational structures."
"This is one of the three Intergenerational Centres to be built in the Azores. It is an innovative response at regional level that will help our children and young people to acquire social skills, while supporting our elderly at a stage of life where loneliness is one of the main risks," stated the government official.
Andreia Cardoso stated that this type of investment falls within the Regional Government's strategic vision to improve social responses in these areas. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
The Arrifes Intergenerational Centre is located in Milagres neighbourhood, a place with good accessibility and parking areas, which also contributes to the development of a building with proper conditions.
The work, which began in January 2018, corresponds to a Government's investment over 2.6 million Euros.
