"Alert4You" electronic platform to improve communications and increase dissemination of information and alerts, says Regional Director
The launch of the Alert4You electronic platform will "enhance the efficiency of communications as well as to increase the dissemination of information and alerts related to situations that may compromise the safety of the population" in Azores, Madeira and the Canaries, the three regions involved in the project, assured the Regional Director for Public Works and Communications.
Frederico Sousa spoke in Funchal at the end of a meeting he chaired with the partners of the international project designated as Alert4you - Territorial Cooperation Programme INTERREG-MAC - Azores, Madeira, Canaries. The meeting was also attended by the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service, the Association of Municipalities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (AMRAM), the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-iti), the Madeira Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service and the Direcion General de Seguridade y Emergencias of the Government of Canaries.
The Regional Director highlighted the importance of the Alert4You platform for the three regions and, in particular, for the Azores, also taking into consideration the convergence of procedures and communication methods on the part of the regions involved in the project.
Frederico Sousa also reinforced the importance of the international Alert4you project to the Azores. It will comprise other actions beyond the electronic platform, representing an overall investment of one million euros co-financed by Community funds.
"It is extremely important to create a series of management and information dissemination tools to promote the safety of residents and visitors in regions with very specific characteristics, such as the Azores, Madeira and the Canaries. These regions are affected by natural hazards and have a strong tourism component," said the Government official.
The platform to be developed by the end of the first quarter of 2019 will comprise a georeferenced system of communication, validation and processing of events as well as a system for the dissemination of alerts and information. These systems may be selective either in the reception of alerts and information on events or in the dissemination of alerts, based on various technological systems. Furthermore, they will include the mobile applications of the Regional Civil Protection Services already in operation, thus allowing a greater effectiveness in the dissemination of information and interaction with residents and tourists.
