The Government of the Azores maintains the investment in the improvement of the archipelago's road network. It has recently invested more than 348 thousand Euros in the upgrading and rehabilitation of roads on the islands of Pico and São Miguel.
The interventions are aimed at improving road safety and efficiency and include works ranging from the improvement of drainage systems to the construction of pavements, parking areas and support walls.
This is the case of the contract work for the improvement and upgrading of the access road to Ponta da Ilha Basic Education School in the village of Piedade and the contract work for the construction of a retaining wall on a section of the regional road in the village of Lajes. Both interventions will be carried on the island of Pico and involve an investment of 111 thousand Euros.
Furthermore, the Regional Government also promoted interventions on roads in the municipalities of Ponta Delgada, Lagoa and Nordeste with the aim of reinforcing mobility and accessibility conditions as well as the modernisation of the road system.
These interventions to be carried on São Miguel Island represent an investment 237 thousand Euros and include the construction and consolidation of support wall on the regional roads of Candelária and Algarvia, the access road to Caloura port and the regional road in Portal do Vento, Sete Cidades.
In this context, it is worth mentioning the intervention in Portal do Vento as an access road to the tourist area of Sete Cidades, which represented an investment of 148 thousand Euros.
