Government of the Azores promotes clarification sessions on Community Directive "INSPIRE"
The Government of the Azores promotes a series of technical sessions aimed at clarifying the EU Directive "INSPIRE" that will take place on the islands of S. Miguel, Faial and Terceira between April 13 and June 9.
These sessions aim to provide regional authorities with the necessary tools to implement this Community Directive stipulating the general rules for the establishment of geographic information infrastructures in the European Community for purposes of environmental policies and policies with environmental impact.
In order to comply with this Directive, the Regional Government has been promoting a series of actions that will ensure its implementation, such as these four technical sessions.
The first session takes place Wednesday on the island of São Miguel on April 13 and will address the "Basics of a Geographic Information System."
On April 26, also on São Miguel, the second session will be held under the title "GIS Open Source."
The third technical session will focus on the fundamental aspects of the Directive as well on practical issues relating to the "Data Matching." It is scheduled for May 18 on Terceira Island, May 20 on Faial Island and May 24 on São Miguel Island.
The last of these technical sessions, held in conjunction with the Directorate-General for Territory, will address the themes "Creating geographic data services with Open Source software" and "Metadata." It is scheduled for June 7 on São Miguel Island and June 9 on Terceira.
Adopted in 2007, the INSPIRE Directive is a measure that focuses on the exchange, sharing, access and use of geographic data by public authorities and different sectors, thus ensuring that Member States are able to comply with the sixth action programme on the environment.
