Regional Government launches contract work for the renewal of the Regional Road between Arrebentão and São Lourenço on Santa Maria Island
Following the Resolution of the Council of the Government of February 20, the Government of the Azores launched today the contract work for the renewal of a section of the Regional Road no.1-1 between Arrebentão and Vigia da Areia in São Lourenço, Santa Maria, as in accordance with the provisions of the Regional Public Works Charter.
The contract work, which is part of a series of interventions in the Road Network of Santa Maria, represents an investment of nearly 800 thousand Euros and has a completion period of 180 days from the date of awarding.
This intervention includes the creation and improvement of areas of tourist interest, such as the case of viewpoints and leisure areas, as well as the recovery of dry stone walls and the construction of drainage systems along the entire section.
The pavement will also be renewed by placing a new base and sub-base in a part of the section and applying bitumen in a 2.7 km stretch. The work comprises the installation of vertical road signs and the definition of road surface markings.
The Regional Road no.1 - 1 between Arrebentão and Vigia da Areia is one of the major tourist access roads to Santa Maria. In fact, this is the only access road to São Lourenço Bay, one of the best bathing areas distinguished with the Blue Flag award that is frequented by a significant number of locals and tourists, especially during the summer.
