The Regional Government launched today a public tender for the chartering of a vessel for the transport of liquid fuel in the archipelago of the Azores. The opening notice of the tender procedure was published in the Official Gazette (Series II No. 44).
Launched by the Regional Cohesion and Economic Development Support Fund, this tender provides for the chartering of a vessel for a period of four years that may be extended for two periods of one year. It has a base price of 16.2 million Euros.
This fund is assigned the legal responsibilities of providing financial support to the supply of essential goods to the population of different islands and ensuring the public maritime service for the inter-island transport of goods.
Therefore, it is important to ensure the regular public maritime service for inter-island transport of liquid fuel as this is an essential service to the well-being of the population and the economic development of the Region.
The specificities of the markets supplying these services as well as the distinctive features of the vessel type and regional ports require the definition of a contract term for a period longer than three years, including the respective extensions. This will encourage competitiveness and more advantageous price proposals.
With this procedure, the Autonomous Region of the Azores will have a vessel to carry out the inter-island maritime transport of liquid fuel, according to the consumption needs of each one.
