The Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory (LREC) organises an Education and Scientific Inspection to the Fort of São João Baptista in Angra do Heroísmo on March 26 and 27. This is a joint initiative with the University of the Azores aimed at the reflection and debate on the promotion and safeguarding of this building.
The Educational and Scientific Journey aims to study the building "in loco," which is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The study will focus on a technical and scientific perspective regarding intervention and management strategies, with special emphasis on the Church, the Gate of Arms, the old arms storage room and some walls of the fort.
The initiative, open to multidisciplinary groups (teachers, students and professionals from different areas), involves the recognition of the place and the diagnosis of some aspects. These actions will be followed by a debate on proposals for the preservation of the fort.
The collected materials will be produced and archived by LREC and the University of Coimbra; its use will be authorised for their eventual educational, technical or scientific use.
Those who are interested in participating may obtain further information and make their registration at the address www.lrec.azores.gov.pt.
