Azorean population to benefit from Integrated Transport Plan soon, assures Vítor Fraga
The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport assured today in Horta that the Azorean population will soon "enjoy all the benefits" resulting from the implementation of the Integrated Transport Plan of the Azores (PIT), which will have "a positive impact on the mobility and well-being of citizens."
Speaking at the Legislative Assembly to present the guidelines of the Transport Plan and deliver it to the President of Regional Assembly, Vítor Fraga noted that the PIT is "focused on the provision of a service to citizens and companies."
In this regard, the government official stressed that the aforementioned plan "will be implemented in the course of this legislative period, starting on the 'Triangle' islands (Pico, Faial and São Jorge). According to him, this is a dynamic plan that has "the possibility of being adapted to the changes and needs we might face in the future."
Moreover, Vítor Fraga stressed that the Integrated Transport Plan "is not an end, but a means" to improve the levels of mobility not only of the local population, but also of those who visit the archipelago; therefore, travelling within the Region will be easier, more convenient and cheaper.
The PIT will pursue "operational excellence in the transport sector," the Regional Secretary said, acknowledging that "this is an ambitious goal."
Vítor Fraga is aware that "this project, likewise its implementation, "will be the target of criticism - some well intentioned, but others not so much."
Nevertheless, he expressed his availability to hear "all parties without exception, but we will continue to work hard and with dedication in the implementation of the transport plan."
The PIT has been presented on the islands of Faial, Pico, São Jorge and Terceira; it will be presented on the remaining islands very shortly.
