Azores have one hundred viewpoints and picnic parks under the Government's administration, reveals Vítor Fraga
The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport revealed today that there are one hundred viewpoints and picnic parks across the archipelago under the Government's administration.
For Vítor Fraga, this fact "clearly shows the size and importance of these infrastructures for everyone: those who live here and those who visit us."
The Secretary for Tourism spoke at the opening of Melo Nunes Viewpoint in the Village of Maia, stressing that this work "emphasises the spirit of collaboration and cooperation between the Azorean Government and regional local authorities."
"This place shows that, with intensive cooperation among all, the work is born," the government official stressed, adding that the construction of the viewpoint "is the result of the cooperation between the Government of the Azores and the Village Council of Maia; the latter fulfilled this aspiration of local inhabitants that will certainly meet their expectations."
"We have here a fantastic space that can be enjoyed not only by those who live in Maia, but for all those visiting the village. This place is becoming increasingly part of the Region's tourist itinerary, namely of S. Miguel Island," said Vítor Fraga.
"Those who visit us are part of a key sector for our Region - the tourism sector. Currently, it is experiencing a new dynamic phase that has broken record after record," said the government official.
In his speech, the Regional Secretary also said the Strategic and Marketing Plan of the Azores Tourism. According to him, it is a fundamental plan that lists the sector's development assumptions in the Region in a very clear and objective manner, which requires the commitment of all parties involved."
Vítor Fraga recalled that this is not a plan of the Government, but a "plan of all in which all were heard on its development."
"It was the most comprehensive plan ever insofar as the Government heard all parties involved, from the population to the main industry players. It contains an integrated perspective of what the development of the sector should be for the coming years," said the government official.
The Regional Secretary launched a "major challenge," urging "mayors, municipalities and village councils to adopt this strategic plan and develop their strategy based on the development strategy for regional tourism."
