Fibre optic cable connection should become operational on the Western Group islands by October
The installation of fibre optic cable on the Western Group islands should be completed by October, announced the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport on Monday.
While visiting the island of Corvo, Vítor Fraga said that the Regional Government is strongly committed to ensure that "all Azorean islands have access to fast and efficient communications," which is an important asset "for the local population as well as for the future technical development of each island."
In this regard, Vítor Fraga revealed that the submarine cable is expected to be launched in the beginning of March and will be fully operational by the end of October.
The installation of fibre optic cable on the Western Group islands will improve the access to communications within world standards.
