The Government of the Azores invested over 896,000 euros on the island of Pico in 2010 and 2011 in programmes that supported the rehabilitation of poor housing, the relocation of families, the acquisition and/or construction of houses and house rental.
The information was provided today by the Regional Secretary of Labour and Social Solidarity Ana Paula Marques, who visited the rehabilitation works of a house located in Ponta da Ilha, village of Piedade, municipality of Lajes do Pico.
Construction works for this house are already in their final phase and they represent an investment of about 42,000 euros.
This support aims to solve the housing problems, to boost house rental, to provide work for the regional workforce, to allow families to remain in their place of origin and to rehabilitate buildings in the Azores.
