The Government of the Azores welcomes the coming of more companies to the Region, especially if they demonstrate interest in implementation of projects in emerging areas of the regional economy.
The statement was made by José Contente, Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, at the end of an audience to exchange greeting, which was granted by the President of the Government to José Avelino Farinha, from the company AFA Açores.
As the Azores are an open and competitive market, “we are naturally committed to ensure the financial health of the companies operating in the Azores – as it is fortunately the case of AFA –so that they may be able to develop the projects which, in an open market, will eventually win the tenders held here,” defended José Contente.
According to the Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, the Azores now have new projects in emerging areas, such as the Environment, for example, and companies should consider ways of joining efforts in order to seize the opportunities resulting from these partnerships.
Although funded with capital from Madeira, AFA Açores is a company based in the Azores, where it has already participated in works of considerable dimension, such as the reconstruction of the housing stock affected by the 1998 earthquake on the islands of Faial and Pico.
