Government launches public tender for rehabilitation and improvement works of Regional Road section between Alto das Manadas and Biscoitos on São Jorge Island

In the context of the interventions in the road network of São Jorge Island, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Transport has launched the public tender for the contract work of the regional road section between Alto das Manadas and Biscoitos with a base price of € 600,000.00, VAT included. These interventions represent a global investment of 2.6 million Euros.

Included in the Regional Public Works Charter, the contract work will start in 2016 and has a completion period of 6 months after its awarding. This is one of the three major interventions planned for this legislative period.

The "Contract Work for the rehabilitation and improvement of a section of the Regional Road no.1-2 between Alto das Manadas and Biscoitos" aims, in addition to replacing the pavement, to standardise the road width, create drainage systems, install elements to enhance the safety of this section and improve vertical road signs and road surface markings.

The intervention is divided into two sections. The first is located in the West and has an extension of 603 metres that starts at the junction of Regional Road no.1-2 with the Urzelina-Manadas Bypass and finishes at one end of the road section in Alto das Manadas that was subject to an intervention in 2009. The second is located in the East and comprises an extension of 3515 metres that starts at the other end of the section that was improved in 2009 and finishes in Biscoitos. Overall, the project covers an extension of 4.1 km.

The planned interventions for the road pavement include the placement of asphalt, the reconstruction of the road surface and the respective sanitation infrastructures and, in some cases, the widening of the road to 6 metres.

With this contract work, the Regional Government complies with the provisions set out for the island of São Jorge in terms of investment in the road network, with an investment over 2.6 million Euros for three contract works. The planned interventions also include the rehabilitation and improvement of a section of the Regional Road no.1-2, between the Airport and Ribeira do Almeida, which is at tender phase as well as the improvement and rehabilitation of a section of the Regional Road no.1-2 in the access lane to Fajã do Ouvidor, whose contract work under preparation.
