The Government of the Azores joins the celebrations of the World Tourism Day next Tuesday, September 27. This year's edition is celebrated under the theme "Tourism for All."
On this day, there will be several initiatives on all islands with the aim of providing tourists with a better knowledge on the Azorean reality and the specific characteristics of the Region, namely culture, cuisine, handicrafts and regional products.
Tourists staying at accommodation units throughout the archipelago will receive a sample of local products and the regional tourism offices will offer visitors a tasting of regional products.
Given the extraordinary evolution of tourism in recent years, with a worldwide increase in the number of tourists from 25 million to 1.2 billion, the World Tourism Organisation has chosen "Tourism for All" as the theme to mark the occasion in 2016. It is also intended to remind countries and destinations that nearly one billion people do not enjoy the privilege of travelling, raising their awareness to focus their tourism policies and economic strategies to ensure accessibility to all, not only as a human right but also an excellent business opportunity."
