The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures challenged today the University and companies to put in effect the concepts of entrepreneurship, star up's, spin off's, innovation and knowledge in order to achieve practical results and new levels of development.
Following the implementation of these theoretical concepts, José Contente considers it is time to introduce this "rational pragmatism" in companies, particularly in the Azores technological parks, the infrastructures that will enable the University and companies to put into practice the principles of research and development in business context.
"Companies must realise that it is worth integrating the results of scientific knowledge and the work carried out by the university. Hence, we have qualified employment in the Region and companies with enhanced viability for future growth," said the government official.
The Regional Secretary spoke at the opening session of the 1st Forum "Companies and University - A partnership with future," taking place at the University of the Azores. According to the government official, this is the pioneer phase. We have been working with the university to discuss and analyse the importance of this academic approach to companies. We must now undertake further steps to accelerate the results of this partnership."
José Contente considers that with this new attitude, based on scientific knowledge, we will be able to overcome the challenges of global economy, ensure qualified employment and the return to companies and the economy in general.
"Now, the challenge is to change our attitude and accept as valid every opportunity by promoting knowledge, innovation and competitiveness. It is important to continue with this resilience because its effects will be visible in the short-term, "concluded the government official.
