The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works stated on Terceira Island that the Cargo Terminal of Lajes Airport is expected to be completed in June next year.
Ana Cunha spoke at the end of a visit to the works. On the occasion, she stressed that, for the time being, concrete works are under way and the assembly of metal structures will start next summer.
For the Regional Secretary, this infrastructure represents a significant investment of the Regional Government on Terceira Island and "will bring undeniable benefits" when it will enter into operation.
The contract work, whose investment surpasses 4.5 million Euros, "is running according to the planned schedule," adding that it is expected "to be completed within the stipulated deadline, which is June 2020," said Ana Cunha.
The Secretary for Public Works added that the cargo terminal will include "a specific area for the operation of freight forwarders under very favourable conditions" as well as "an exclusive space for post services and a cargo processing area with cold storage rooms to better serve entrepreneurs on Terceira Island and the Azores in general."
For the Regional Secretary, the benefits "arise from the size and quality of this infrastructure that will be at the service of the economy of Terceira and the Azores."
