New Generation Network and optical fibre cable projects "are progressing," says José Contente
The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures was assured by the Managing Director of FibroGlobal that the projects for the installation of optical fibre cable and New Generation Network are moving forward in the Azores.
During an audience with José Contente, Graça Galvão assessed the situation of both projects. The government official was informed by the director of FibroGlobal - the company responsible for the installation of the Next Generation Networks in the Azores (NGN) and optical fibre cable on Faial, Flores, Corvo and Graciosa - that later this month the company will receive the proposals from several optical fibre cable manufacturers.
After the meeting, José Contente mentioned that an aquatic survey was carried out to select the best cable tie points.
Moreover, the project for the installation of NGN is progressing at a good pace. After contacting the mayors of the 12 Azorean municipalities covered by this project, the Government will move forward with the installation works of the infrastructures shortly.
"This whole process is progressing, which reveals that both the installation of optical fibre cable and the Next Generation Networks will be a reality soon," said José Contente.
The installation of these networks will provide elderly people with greater autonomy and promote e-education and e-justice. Indeed, these projects will foster the development of new potentialities in the short-term.
If associated to companies and the economic sector, these potentialities will create a society "in which modernity is not only linked to geography and history, as Vitorino Nemésio once said, but also to the field of telecommunications, promoting technological development in favour of the well-being of populations," stated the Regional Secretary.
The installation of optical fibre cable will start next spring, when the weather and sea conditions are more favourable for this type of operations.
