Regional Secretariat for Infrastructures moves forward with urban redevelopment of Avenida Vasco da Gama on Faial
The Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, through its office on the island of Faial, has started the urban redevelopment works at Avenida Vasco da Gama. The works include the renewal of sidewalks and pedestrian crossings with traditional Portuguese pavement; the reconversion of the taxi rank; the improvement of vehicle access to the parking area and the embellishment of the surrounding area.
This governmental department has approximately repaired and lowered 500 metres of sidewalks in several villages in order to improve pedestrian accessibility, particularly of people with reduced mobility.
Meanwhile, the expansion works of the pedestrian zone that runs along the so-called "Rua do Peter" and ends by the access to the Marina have already been concluded. The works comprised the lowering of the sidewalk and the replacement of two pedestrian crossings for a single crossing with traditional Portuguese pavement. Moreover, a flower bed was also built and the street lights were replaced.
With these interventions, the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures aims to improve the comfort and safety of pedestrian areas not only in the city of Horta, but also in the several villages of Faial.
