Regional Government authorises tender for redevelopment of Horta Commercial Port
The resolution of the Council of the Government authorising the Regional Port Authorities to launch the public tender for the redevelopment of Horta Commercial Port as published today in the Official Journal, following the review of the project and the issuing of the environmental impact statement.
This work has an estimated budget of 17.4 million Euros. It includes the construction of a 265-metre long mooring berth within the port area, separating the marina from the commercial area, and the construction of an area for ship repair.
The intervention will improve the operating conditions and the permanence of vessels in the port basin as well as the onshore parking conditions for vessels. Moreover, it will also separate the various sectors of port activity, increasing the safety conditions of users and workers as well as the operational efficiency of each sector.
The resolution now published also authorises a multiannual contract between the Autonomous Region of the Azores and the Regional Port Authorities to regulate the works and establish the cooperation between both parties in this context.
Under the terms of the contract, the financial contribution from the Autonomous Region of the Azores is stipulated at 2,756,870 Euros and will cover the costs of the work in the component not financed by Community funds, namely studies and projects, contract works and monitoring contracts, and price revisions. This sum does not include the Value Added Tax.
This investment will provide a strong contribution to the development of Faial and the Azores.
