Regional Government launches tender for construction of Cargo Terminal at Lajes Civil Air Terminal
The Government of the Azores has launched the tender for the construction of the Cargo Terminal of Lajes Civil Air Terminal on Terceira Island, with a base price of 4.6 million Euros and a completion period of 540 days.
According to the opening notice published today in the Official Journal, the contract work includes "the construction of an air cargo terminal to support the Lajes Civil Air Terminal with the aim of improving and increase the flow and movement of goods by air transportation. It will also provide the infrastructure with systems and equipment to ensure its safety and operation."
The new cargo terminal building will be built on land located about 400 metres from Lajes Civil Air Terminal in a north-westerly direction to Lajes Regional Road, more specifically between two existing hangars and the road.
The building has a deployment area of about 8,730 m2 facing the Lajes Regional Road.
The project is divided into two units, the main building of the Cargo Terminal and a secondary building for freight forwarders; each will have independent storehouses.
The first unit will has several areas: sorting and temporary storage of CTT (Portuguese Post Services) goods, sorting and temporary storage of export and import goods, costumer services as well as several offices, including Customs, GNR (National Republican Guard) and Veterinary services.
The second unit will house three separate spaces for the sorting and temporary storage of goods for operations of the three freight forwarders.
