The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works visited today the redevelopment works of the picnic area and recreational space located in the hamlet of Maia, village of Santo Espírito, on the island of Santa Maria.
The contract work, carried out by direct management, includes the construction of a protection wall around the recreational space, the resurfacing of the pavement as well as the installation of new tables with parasols, grills and washbasins.
This is investment has an overall budget of 25 thousand Euros and a completion period of 90 days.
With this intervention, Ana Cunha pointed out that the Regional Government fulfils the commitments made towards the optimisation of regional resources and the improvement of public infrastructures. As she emphasised, these interventions are intended "to dignify the landscape heritage, taking into account the improvement of accessibility, roads, mobility conditions and the quality of life of Azoreans."
During the statutory visit to the island of Santa Maria, Ana Cunha also had the opportunity to visit the rehabilitation works of the centre of the village of São Pedro.
The project comprises the construction of footpaths and a parking lane, the widening of traffic lanes, the construction of new dry stone support walls and the placement of lighting fixtures inside the walls.
As the centre of villages are the places with the largest flow of people, the intervention, besides replacing the support walls that were in an advanced stated of degradation, will also enhance the safety of pedestrians as well as of the people who access the area by car and the future users of the sports club," said the Regional Secretary.
The contract work now under way is also being carried out by direct management, representing an investment of around 20 thousand Euros with a completion period of 180 days.
