Tender for construction of São Roque do Pico Passenger Terminal to move forward this year, announces Ana Cunha
The tender for the construction of the Passenger Maritime Terminal at São Roque do Pico Port has already been launched by the Regional Port Authorities.
With a base price of 3.5 million Euros and a completion period of 20 months, this procedure fulfils the commitment made by the Regional Government to build the Passenger Maritime Terminal at the São Roque do Pico Port.
The contract work includes the construction of a new station, the remodelling of traffic and parking areas, and the expansion of the whole space, thus resulting in greater comfort for users as well as in increased safety and quality in terms of the service provided.
With this contract work, the Regional Government continues the process of implementing infrastructures with adequate conditions for the reality of maritime transport of passengers and vehicles, such as those already existing on the islands of Faial and São Jorge.
The project for the new Maritime Passenger Terminal at São Roque do Pico Port includes the reorganisation of the entire space, which will increase the parking capacity, create more waiting places and expand the vehicle boarding area. Moreover, it intends to upgrade passenger embarkation and disembarkation areas, through the creation of specific and differentiated places for buses, taxis, tourist vehicles and light vehicles.
There are also plans to expand the landfill area of São Roque Port, the creation of pedestrian areas, with shelter areas and landscaped areas, as well as the creation of public access and restricted areas, which are mandatory in these infrastructures.
The new station building will have an estimated area of 758 square metres with better conditions to accommodate passengers and other users of this infrastructure.
