The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works stated today that Apron C of Lajes Airport responds to 98% of civil aviation needs, while the remaining 2% do not use this Apron, above all, for operational reasons.
Vitor Fraga spoke in Ponta Delgada at the end of a hearing at the Committee on Economic Affairs of the Legislative Assembly. According to him, "Apron C currently responds to 98% of civil aviation needs at Lajes Airport, while the remaining 2% do not necessarily stem from the lack of capacity of the apron, but rather from operating and safety options." In this context, he added that this figure concerns "State flights, security flights and some medical emergencies."
For the Regional Secretary, the expansion of Apron C "is not necessary because the infrastructure is available."
"If we have an infrastructure available due to the reduction of military activity, no one understands the need to expand the Apron when there are, near us, other empty Aprons that are ready to be used," stressed Vítor Fraga.
According to the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, what is to be done will be "within the certification for permanent use by civil aircraft, already in progress, and streamline the use of these aprons."
