The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport challenged "companies and businesspeople [in the construction industry] to introduce new products" in this sector.
Vítor Fraga spoke at the opening session of the meeting of the Regional Council of Public Works, where the Catalogue of Endogenous Products and materials produced and processed in the Region was presented. The government official noted that "this document is another contribution to increase the use of materials produced or processed in the Azores, through their inclusion in the base programmes for projects and in the tender specifications of public and private works."
According to the Regional Secretary, the Government aims to promote "a more intensive use of these materials, thus enhancing the dynamics of regional companies and bringing added value to the construction sector."
However, Vítor Fraga warned that this measure "will only be feasible if there is an effort to meet the expectations raised and if companies promote innovation in the products they use by including regional materials."
The Regional Secretary assured the Government's full availability to become a partner of companies. In this context, the government official said the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory is available "to collaborate in the creation of new products."
According to Vítor Fraga, the Government of the Azores assumes itself as "a partner of regional companies in this venture to revitalise the construction sector, adapting it to the new times."
