Vítor Fraga marks completion of "Sustainable Corvo" project after investment of 1.2 million Euros
The Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Transport visited today two houses in Vila do Corvo, where solar panels and heat pumps were installed for water heating. This visit marks the conclusion of the "Sustainable Corvo" project.
This project consisted in the installation of solar panels and heat pumps in all houses of Corvo Island that are privately owned.
"This investment was divided into two phases, which totals approximately one million and two hundred thousand Euros," said Vítor Fraga. The government underlined that this project "meets two main goals" since, on the one hand, it reduces the import of fossil fuels to the island and Region, and, on the other hand, it to monthly household budget.
According to Vítor Fraga, this investment "generates savings of about 40 Euros per month for a family whose household is composed of four members."
The Regional Secretary stressed that the investment in renewable energy is "a strategy that the Regional Government has been implementing and will continue to do so in order to reach a penetration rate of renewable energies of about 53% in the Azores by 2017."
Vítor Fraga stressed that this challenged has been defined. The Government of the Azores is working with "clear and objective proposals," but also "with the implementation of this and other ongoing projects in the Region, thus escaping the demagoguery and irresponsibility of some proposals that do nothing to relieve the budget of Azorean families."
