The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport stated in Vila Franca do Campo that this year's edition of Red Bull Cliff Diving was "the best ever."
Vítor Fraga spoke at the press conference held at the end of the event, conveying his "great satisfaction" for having assured that the competition will continue to be held in the Azores in the next two years. According to him, this "demonstrates that it has been a positive partnership for both parties."
"If it were not so, we would not further extend the organisation of this even in the Region. As everyone knows, it is of fundamental importance in terms of the efforts we have carried out in promoting tourism, which has contributed to the excellent results we have achieved," said the government official.
The Regional Secretary recalled that 2015 was the best year ever for tourism, adding that the first half of 2016 has show good signs.
"We must continue working, not just this year but for the future and, therefore, we appreciate all the help that has been given. On the Government's part, it will continue so that we may be able to organise next year's edition that will be even better that this year's, which has been the best so far," said Vítor Fraga.
The Secretary for Tourism stressed that this event "clearly falls within the strategy set by the Government of the Azores with regard to the funding and promotion of events," with a practical effect in the Region's external promotion.
In this context, Vítor Fraga recalled that the 2015 event "reached more than 34 countries, making up a total over 107 million viewers. This clearly demonstrates the size and media impact of a competition such as this to the external visibility of the Region."
The Regional Secretary congratulated all athletes and winners of this edition of Red Bull Cliff Diving, thanking "all for the collaboration and partnership that has been developed between the Government of the Azores, Red Bull Extreme, Vila Franca do Campo Nautical Club and Vila Franca do Campo Town Hall."
"Without such joint efforts, it would not be possible to organise this competition in the Region," said Vítor Fraga.
