The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA), promotes the first training course "Innovating Arts and Crafts of the Azores" in Ponta Delgada from April 17 to 22. It is developed under "Craft Training for Innovation - Craft & Art," a project created with the aim of improving the competitiveness of small and medium companies.
Developed in partnership with GRATER, this regional initiative will contribute to the development of innovation projects based on the most traditional and emblematic arts and crafts of the nine islands, from embroidery to lace, without forgetting vegetable fibres, fish scales, ceramics and weaving.
After this training course directed to artisans residing on the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria, the project continues on Terceira Island on May 8-13 for artisans residing on Terceira and Graciosa. It will then travel to the island of Pico from May 29 to June 3, covering artisans of Pico, São Jorge, Faial, Flores and Corvo.
The training sessions will be conducted by Portugal à Mão Association - Centre for Studies and Promotion of Portuguese Arts and Crafts, a cultural non-profit association that promotes reflection and debate on tarts and crafts and traditional culture.
