Craft products from 46 regional units featured in Holy Christ of Miracles Festivities
The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA), promotes, as in previous years, the "M.ART. Holy Christ of Miracles" in the context of the "Lar, Campo e Mar” Fair taking place at Alameda do Mar in Ponta Delgada from today to May 10.
This initiative is part of the regional handicraft exhibitions that are organised during the festivities of each island. It presents a new project for stands, built from endogenous materials, with the aim of providing a significant contribution to the marketing of handicraft products in the Region and fostering the craft economy.
This year, the event features products from 46 Craft Production Units (UPA) from the islands of São Miguel, Pico, Faial and Terceira that have applied for Incentive Scheme for the Development of Handicrafts (SIDART).
The exhibition showcases works different handmade productions, namely plant fibres, embroidery, lace, textiles, patchwork, whalebone, fish scales, jewellery, tin and iron works, leather and wood works, glass works, puppetry, Holy Christ of Miracles "registos" (representations) and herbs.
The "M.ART Holy Christ of Miracles" also intends to promote products certified under the "Azores Handicrafts" collective brand. The certification is crucial for the regional strategy towards the preservation and support of traditional crafts, ensuring the quality and authenticity of production.
The "Azores Handicrafts" brand currently comprises 21 certified craft areas and about one hundred Craft Production Units bearing the certification seal.
The fair will be open to the public from 6 PM to 12 AM on May 4, 8 and 9; from 4 PM to 12 AM on May 5, 6 and 7; from 2 PM to 12 AM on May 10.
