Government of the Azores promotes Urban Craft Markets in Praia da Vitória and Ponta Delgada
The Urban Craft Market (MUA) will be available in the city of Praia da Vitória from April 1 to 4.
The initiative is promoted by the Vice-President of the Government, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA), with the collaboration of Praia da Vitória City Hall.
MUA will be held at Largo da Luz with nine exhibition and commercial spaces that will feature traditional and contemporary craft pieces, including tile, binding or weaving, among others. This initiative that aims to increase the visibility of the Azorean craft activities as well as to revitalise and boost its image.
The first edition of 2016, held in Praia da Vitória, features the participation of artisans Isabel Rosário, Manuela Sousa, Maria Aurélia Rocha, Francisco Rocha e Lúcia Freitas (Terceira Island), Bruna Silva (Santa Maria Island) and the company Só Sabão (Viseu).
During the four days of MUA in Praia da Vitória, there will be four workshops on knitting, handmade soap, tile painting and leather at the Social Kiosk.
The Urban Craft Market of Ponta Delgada will be also open from April 1 to 4. This initiative is also promoted by the Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA), with the support of Ponta Delgada City Hall.
MUA will display at Largo da Matriz works in ceramics, stonework, embroidery and herbs, among others, by artisans Catarina Castelo, Inês Ribeiro, Odília Mancebo, Teresa Baganha, Randal Gladwin and Atalhada Cultural Centre (São Miguel Island), José Francisco Pereira (Faial Island) and Publicações Serrote (Lisbon).
On April 2 and 3, the Social Kiosk will organise four workshops on typography, edge designs, tin works and macramé.
Both markets are open from 10 AM to 6 PM.
