The Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA) is preparing the third edition of Creative Residence, an event that will take place on the island of Terceira.
The Director of CRAA, Sofia de Medeiros, has visited 12 Craft Production Units on Terceira to become acquainted with their needs and establish a closer relation with local artisans; her visit was also intended to prepare the next edition of Creative Residence. This year's edition will be dedicated to whitework embroidery techniques.
The Regional Centre for Handicrafts aims to disseminate whitework embroidery, a traditional craft technique from Terceira, by stimulating its production under a strategy intended to recover and promote Azorean handicrafts.
Similarly to the case of Santa Maria, the actions developed by CRAA on the island of Terceira are also intended to revitalise craft techniques in sheep wool with the purpose of assuring the preservation of a social habit that might be lost in the near future.
The Craft Exhibition (M. ART. - Praia da Vitória) is another activity to be promoted on the island of Terceira. This event will take place during the most important festivities of Praia da Vitória on the first weekend of August. It will be jointly organised by CRAA and the Municipality of Praia da Vitória.
The Craft Exhibition will be held alternately in the two cities of Terceira: one year in Angra do Heroísmo during the São Joaninhas festivities and the following year in Praia da Vitória during the local festivities.
