The Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA) promotes the organisation of another edition of the Urban Craft Market (MUA) in Ponta Delgada on March 26-29 in partnership with the Anda&Fala Association.
During the three-day event, ten creators/artisans, either individually or representing companies and cooperatives, will publicly display several works depicting different craft areas, such as ceramics, skin, bone, fusing, vinyl, jewellery and textiles.
In addition to nine kiosks where craft pieces will be on display and available for purchase, MUA will also feature a kiosk designed for interactions with the public in order to promote new talents through the organisation of several workshops and training courses.
The programme of the Urban Craft Market also includes a 90-minute guided tour, scheduled on March 26 at 10:30 AM, which will be dedicated the theme "Symmetry step by step." This activity will count on the participation of Ricardo Cunha Teixeira from the University of the Azores.
Along the path, between Largo da Matriz and Campo de São Francisco, participants are invited to rediscover several examples of rosettes and friezes on the traditional Portuguese cobblestone pavements that decorate the historic centre of Ponta Delgada, which are truly a craft heritage. Those who are interested may registered at the email [email protected].
According to CRAA, these activities are also intended to mark the European Artistic Crafts Days, celebrated on March 27-29, by initiative of the Institut National des Métiers d’Art, France, as a vehicle for the promotion and development of crafts throughout Europe.
The Urban Craft Market, which will run on the north side of Matriz Church in Ponta Delgada, will be open to the public from 10 AM to 6:30 (March 26), from 11 AM to 6:30 AM (March 27-29) and from 3 PM to 10:30 PM (March 28).
