The Regional Director for Support to the Investment and Competitiveness highlighted in Ponta Delgada the "consistent" creation of new companies in the archipelago, considering that entrepreneurs remain "confident in the future of the Azores."
Ricardo Medeiros spoke at the end of a visit to a new shopping centre in the city centre, noting that 467 new companies were created in the Azores during the past year.
"This consistent and sustained growth of economic activity in the Region demonstrates that entrepreneurs are and will remain confident in the future of the Azores," said the government official.
According to the Informa Barometer, the Azores registered the highest business creation ratio in the last 12 months of last year for each company dissolved, with a ratio standing at 2.8. In turn, Madeira registered a ratio of 2.1 and the average national ratio stood at 2.5 in the same period of time.
"This ratio of 2.8 represents the creation of almost three companies for each company that closed down," stressed the Regional Director.
"If we take into account the distribution across the three former districts of the Azores, Angra do Heroísmo registered, once again, the highest business creation ratio for each company dissolved, standing at 3.5. - the highest in the country - while Ponta Delgada stood at 2.7 and Horta 2.1," stressed Ricardo Medeiros. According to him, "these data should be a reason for widespread satisfaction among Azorean entrepreneurs."
